My name is Cherie Porras and I serve as a Coordinator at Hope Cottage.
I have lived in Flagstaff only 2 ½ years, however my husband and I have fallen in love with this little town. I was raised in California and have lived in four states including; Arizona, Tennessee, Colorado and Washington. While raising my two beautiful kids I worked as a Medical Assistant and Pharmacy Tech for 20 years. When my adult children moved on with their lives I knew it was time to pay attention to the new chapter I felt the Lord was turning in my life. I started college in my 40’s and achieved an undergrad in both Psychology and Human Services. I knew that there was more so the Lord began to show me through many different ways that He wanted me to fulfill my purpose according to 2 Cor. 1:4 He comforts us in all our troubles so that we can comfort others. When they are troubled, we will be able to give them the same comfort God has given us.
Going through abuse most of my life could either take me down a bad path, or I could work to help other women who had or were going through similar situations. I achieved my Masters Degree in Professional Counseling through Liberty University in Lynchburg, VA. This is my heart's work, to help women find freedom and victory through the healing power of Jesus and to show them that He is their hope. Galatians 5:1 - It is for freedom that Christ has set us free. Stand firm, then, and do not let yourselves be burdened by a yoke of slavery.
